LP4Q welcomes South Africa's filing of a lawsuit against the occupation in the International Court of Justice

Press Release

The League of Parliamentarians for al-Quds welcomes South Africa's filing of a lawsuit against the occupation in the International Court of Justice.

The League of Parliamentarians for al-Quds welcomes the submission of a request by the Republic of South Africa to the International Court of Justice to sue the Israeli occupation for the charge of violating the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide and committing acts of genocide in the Gaza Strip.

The League affirms that this call is a pioneering step and an important development in holding the war criminals of the occupation and perpetrators of genocide against the defenceless population of Gaza accountable. It also represents a real test for the International Court in ensuring justice for the Palestinian people, whose rights have been ignored at various stages, while turning a blind eye to the crimes of the occupation, which violate various customs and international laws.

While the League commends the noble effort of the Republic of South Africa, it calls on Judge Joan Donoghue, President of the International Court of Justice, to exercise her powers in accordance with paragraph 1 of Article 74 of the Court's Statute and issue an urgent order for the trial of the occupation criminals in pursuit of justice and fairness for the victims. It also urges the United Nations and the countries that supported the genocidal war against Gaza, especially the United States, to take immediate action to halt this unprecedented war in human history.

The League of Parliamentarians for al-Quds calls on Islamic countries and the Palestinian Authority to support South Africa's request and swiftly move to hold a fair trial for all those involved in the gross violation of human rights in Gaza, which has shocked all senses of humanity. It urges them to make every effort to achieve an immediate ceasefire in order to ensure the accountability of the war criminals of the occupation.
