Press Release

The League of Parliamentarians for Al-Quds condemns the occupation's arrest of MP Ahmed Attoun and calls for his release

The League of Parliamentarians for Al-Quds condemns the detention of Ahmed Attoun, a member of the Palestinian Legislative Council representing the city of Jerusalem, by Israeli occupation forces after a raid on his home.

The League affirms that the arrest is a flagrant violation of the law, international agreements, principles of human rights, and the parliamentary immunity enjoyed by the deputies, and is not based on any legal justification. These are political decisions par excellence aimed at curtailing the role of deputies in confronting the crimes of the occupation, and deterring them from participating in political life.

The League urges its members, international parliaments, and relevant organizations to exert pressure on the occupation to compel it to comply with its legal commitments and to stop violating the rights of Palestinian representatives and political leaders.
