UNESCO votes today that the Old City of Jerusalem is a Palestinian property

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is scheduled to vote Tuesday for an Arab-backed Palestinian resolution that affirms a Palestinian claim to the Old City of Jerusalem.
The resolution was presented by Palestine in coordination with the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, with the support of Arab countries and others. According to a statement by Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki.
Maliki pointed out that the last time that the draft resolution was passed successfully, the Israeli government caused a sensation, claiming that the decision seeks to sever the Jewish relationship in occupied Jerusalem.
He said that this is a disgrace and the resolution refers to the historical, cultural and heritage aspects that link the occupied Jerusalem with its Muslims and Christians, and emphasizes the need to send a representative of UNESCO to be present permanently in the city to monitor the Israeli Judaization practices.
The Israeli media said that the United States is trying to thwart the decision, noting that America is pressing the member states of “UNESCO” to foil and prevent the passage of any decision in this regard.
It is worthy to note that last year, UNESCO announced the inclusion of 55 World Heritage sites on the list of at-risk sites, including the Old City of Jerusalem and its walls.
