LP4Q Holds a Political Symposium on the Political Repercussions of the War on Gaza

The LP4Q held on Sunday a political symposium tackling the current Palestinian scene, as part of the activities of the third day of the League’s fifth conference, with the participation of political and intellectual figures.

Political analyst and Director of Vision Centre for Political Development Ahmed Atawneh said that the Battle of Al-Aqsa Flood will have profound and strategic consequences which cannot be overlooked at the Israeli level as well as at the Palestinian, regional and international levels.

Atawneh stressed that the Palestinian people in this battle stand for the forces of change and the supporters of justice and humanity, and for the countries that have ambitious projects and desire for revival in the region. He added that it would be a strategic mistake to abandon the Palestinian people in this battle.

He called for great efforts to be made by all parties supporting the Palestinian issue and justice to end the war in a way that serves the interest of the Palestinian issue.

Yasin Aktay, advisor to the Turkish President and former MP, stressed that the Palestinian resistance in the Gaza Strip has changed all equations, affected the global scene and caused a major earthquake in global politics. He added that “the flame of salvation from global injustice has begun from Gaza, and the whole world is occupied except Gaza, and this is not an exaggeration.”

Aktay pointed out that “the Zionists lie and deny the genocide in Gaza while the West turns a deaf ear to it. Zionists are seeking to monopolize the genocide for themselves in order to appear oppressed.”

In turn, the expert on Israeli affairs Muhannad Mustafa asserted that Religious Zionism has become dominant within Israel, and it is a deep and strong intellectual trend within the Israeli society reflecting the essence of the Zionist movement. He stated that “Israel after October 7 will not be the one we knew before this date, and what happened was a great shock to the country and society.”

Mustafa explained that Israel’s failure during the current war stemmed from mistakes in strategic assessments rather than personal mistakes, indicating that Religious Zionism has decided to be dominant and implement its plans in the West Bank and occupied Jerusalem.

Leader of the Palestinian National Initiative Mustafa Barghouti emphasised that the Palestinian struggle did not begin on October 7 but extends for more than a century since the beginning of the ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people in 1948. He stressed that the vision based on a compromise with the Zionist movement and the American role as a mediator has failed completely.

Barghouti stated that the problem is not only with Benjamin Netanyahu and Itamar Ben-Gvir, but with the entire Zionist system which does not want a compromise solution with the Palestinian people. He pointed out that peace is not sought by any movement within Israel which is further moving towards fascism and extreme racism as a society.

He said that the Oslo Agreement was a way for the Zionist movement to complete settlement and annexation in the West Bank and contributed to absenting the Palestinian issue, affirming that there is a historic opportunity to mobilize an entire Palestinian generation to serve the Palestinian issue.

Barghouti stated that change will occur in Israel as a result of the resistance of the Palestinian people and a global movement that applies pressure through sanctions on the occupation. He emphasised that the Israeli occupation has failed in its declared goals in Gaza thanks to the steadfastness of the Palestinian people there.

He explained that the right of the Palestinian people to democracy has been violated and the Palestinian Legislative Council was dissolved illegally, calling for the formation of a unified national leadership based on a Palestinian struggle program.

Barghouti added that Western powers are talking about democracy and respect for human and peoples’ rights around the world except in Palestine. He called for the restoration of democracy as the key to bringing about internal Palestinian change.

On Friday, the LP4Q launched the activities of its fifth international parliamentary conference in Istanbul titled “Freedom and Independence for Palestine” and hosted by the Turkish Parliament.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Speaker of the Turkish Parliament Numan Kurtulmuş, and more than 700 parliamentarians from 80 countries, in addition to official, international and Turkish figures, participated in the three-day conference.

The conference seeks to complement the achievements of the LP4Q since its founding in light of the current popular and international strategic environment supporting calling to end the aggression and genocidal war waged by the Israeli occupation against the Palestinian people, and to enhance the status and role of the League on the international scene in addition to networking the ideas, projects and efforts of the world’s parliaments in serving the Palestinian issue.
