Parliamentarians for Al-Quds Obtains Observer Status with the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union

The Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union announced, yesterday, granting the League of Parliamentarians for Al-Quds the membership of an observer in the union.

The Director General of the League, Dr. Mohammad Makram Balawi, said that granting the League this status is a new achievement within the League’s plan to strengthen its presence in the relevant parliamentary and forums and institutions, adding, “This new achievement and this membership joins the membership of the African Parliamentary Union, Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC), and the Global Organization of Parliamentarians Against Corruption (GOPAC).”

He pointed out that granting the League this status is an important step on the road to supporting the rights of the Palestinian people and activating the work of parliaments to support the Palestinian cause, calling on the parliamentary unions to interact with the League's efforts and plans aimed at activating the role of parliamentarians and their responsibilities towards the cause.

Last September, a delegation from the League of Parliamentarians for Al-Quds met with the Secretary-General of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union, Fayez Al-Shawabkeh, to discuss the league's membership in the union and to coordinate efforts to support the Palestinian cause.
