Today, April 11th, in Anna Politovskaja room, the first public press conference of the European network of Parliamentarians for Palestine, as a result of the efforts of Michele Piras, European President of the League, and Jean-Claude Lefort, honorary MP of the French National Assembly.
170 MPs, MEPs, and former institutional representatives presented themselves and Networks targets to the European Press on a significant date that comes immediately after Eid Al-Fitr, talking directly to the European Institutions, asking for an immediate ceasefire, lasting peace, and full rights for the Palestinian people.
The Network comprised itself with a main purpose: to raise the voice of anyone who wants the respect of international law and human rights and who believes in a different international role for the Union and the European Nations, independently from the parties and the political cultures, a European Union capable of promoting peaceful exchange and mutual respect among the Mediterranean peoples.
In their speeches, the honorable Michele Piras, Thomas Portes (France), Malik Ben Achour (Belgium), David Cormand, and Thomas Portes (France) and the DEP chairman Manu Pineda (Spain), Raymonde Poncet Monge (France), strongly called for the self-determination of the Palestinian people and condemning the Israeli crimes in Gaza, the end of the occupation, and the immediate withdrawal of the IAF from Palestine.
“A first important step towards a new generation network,” said Michele Piras, “the result of months of work, political mediation activity, and networking, in which everyone recognized the necessity of an organization, a coordinated space directly led by institutional representatives, to give back the floor to the Palestinian reasons, that are the reasons of humans, with their rights that cannot be further denied.”
The next steps of the European League of Parliamentarians for Palestine, headed by Hon. Michele Piras, will be to follow up on the networking activity in all the European countries, to build a structured network, and to develop strong institutional pressure at both the European and national levels.
